Expression of Interest - UK Cyber Security Trade Mission to Japan and Taiwan

Join the next Cyber Security Trade mission to Japan and Taiwan
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) would like to extend an invitation to UK Cybersecurity firms with expertise to offer. Japan is particularly looking for UK companies who have capability in Active Cyber Defence (detect, disrupt, and neutralise) and other expertise to strengthen the capabilities of public organisations who are involved in the ACD implementation.
Why Japan?
Japan’s cybersecurity market is ranked 16th globally. It was valued at GBP 5.27bn in 2024 and is expected to reach GBP 6.2bn by 2027. Japan is experiencing a significant rise in cyber-attacks prompting urgent cybersecurity measures across critical sectors.
Japan’s new Active Cyber Defence (ACD) legislation, enacted in May 2025, marks a historic shift in the country’s approach to cybersecurity. Moving beyond traditional passive measures, ACD empowers Japanese authorities to proactively detect, disrupt, and neutralize cyber threats - including pre-emptive action against attacker infrastructure - under strict legal safeguards. The law mandates incident reporting from critical infrastructure operators and enables the government to intercept foreign internet traffic, significantly enhancing threat intelligence and response capabilities.
Central to ACD is the strengthening of public-private partnerships, with new frameworks for information sharing and coordinated incident response. These reforms not only bolster Japan’s national resilience but also open new avenues for international collaboration, particularly with trusted partners like the UK, creating opportunities for UK cyber companies to contribute expertise, technology, and innovation to Japan’s evolving cyber ecosystem.
Why Taiwan?
Taiwan faces over 2.4 million cyberattacks daily, underscoring the urgency behind its evolving cyber strategy. In April 2025, the government declared in its National Cybersecurity Strategy 2025 that ‘’Cybersecurity is National Security,’ emphasizing resilience across critical infrastructure and global tech supply chain.
This was followed by a Ministry of Digital Affairs’ Phase 7 Cybersecurity Development Program, which allocates NTD 8.8 billion over three years to strengthen national preparedness, deploy AI for early threat detection, and enhance cross-sector coordination. These developments signal a fast-growing, well-funded market aligned with UK strengths—offering timely opportunities for collaboration in AI, threat intelligence, CNI protection and supply chain security.
To capitalise on this opportunity, the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) Japan, based in the British Embassy Tokyo and the British Office Taipei, will host a UK Active Cyber Defence Trade Mission to Japan and Taiwan from 2-6 February 2026.
Participation Fee:
Participation in the Japan leg of the mission (2 days) is free of charge. The Taiwan leg (2 days) will have a participation fee to cover local arrangements. Companies may choose to join either or both parts of the mission. UK participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and personal expenses. The decision to proceed with the Taiwan leg is dependent on sufficient expressions interest to justify the activity.
